  3. Photo no 20: The vehicle with the radar dish. It is the control vehicle for the SAAF "Cactus" missile system.

Photo no 21: Experimental Buffel built for SA Medical Corps. All Buffel vehicles have been retired from service.

Photo no 33: The white anti-mine vehicle is a "ribbok" built for the SA Police on a Ford F250 chassis..

  4. Thanks for your input, captions have been updated to reflect.

I must say, I in some respect, I wish the trade embargo's were never lifted on SA as we were great with our own designs. Living in the UK now I look at what the lads here have gone to Afghanistan with and I really wish the world had taken some of our lead with our armoured vehicle designs - maybe one day.

  5. Photo 2, which you have labelled as an early Rhino is actually a Rhodesian "Pookie" (number plate is a dead give-away).

Also, the Rooikat is not an armoured personnel carrier, it is is an armoured reconnaissance vehicle, and replaced the Eland 90, NOT the Ratel 90
